FreshBooks alternative
A free alternative to FreshBooks.
If you only need to send invoices, you do not need a paid accounting suite or the five-client limit on the entry plan. Make invoices free in the browser, and log in when you want to save and track them.

The trade-off
Where FreshBooks is the better choice.
Full accounting
FreshBooks tracks expenses, runs financial reports, and does double-entry accounting and bank reconciliation. We make invoices, quotes and receipts, not the books.
Project profitability and time tracking
FreshBooks has time tracking and project profitability reports on its higher tiers. We show per-project totals, not billable hours or profitability.
Built-in payments and reminders
FreshBooks collects card payments on the invoice and sends automated late reminders. We do not process payments.
Why log in
What you get with an Invoice No. account.
The browser tools make the document with no account. Logging in adds saving, status and sync, in Quick or Projects mode. Every feature works on the free plan.
Private, no-signup free tools
Invoice, quote, receipt and calculators run entirely in your browser and store nothing. Few other tools work that way.
One connected lifecycle
Carry a quote through to an invoice and on to a receipt, without retyping a thing.
A dashboard with status
Draft, Sent, Paid, Partially paid, Overdue, Void. See exactly where every document stands.
Saved and synced
Your documents and customer book follow you across devices. Pick up exactly where you left off.
13 languages, local tax fields
Country-specific tax labelling for India, the UK, Germany, Australia, Canada and the US.
Export with no lock-in
Your account data is fully exportable, any time. Leave whenever you like and take everything with you.
Plans
Free or paid, in either mode.
On the free plan you get every feature. What it limits is how many documents you can save each month, and paying raises that number. The two modes, Quick and Projects, cost the same, so pick whichever suits how you work when you sign up.
Full feature set, capped at 5 saved documents per calendar month, with no customer cap.

Unlimited means up to 10,000 saved documents a month, a ceiling set only to stop abuse.
How it works
Three steps, start to paid.
Make a document
Invoice, quote or receipt. Fill in the details, pick a template, and it is ready.
Track its status
Send by email or a read-only link, set a reminder, and watch it move from Draft to Sent to Paid.
Get paid
Log full or partial payments, issue a receipt, and keep a clean statement per customer.
Two ways to work
Two modes, two kinds of work.
You choose one at signup, and you can read both before you decide. They suit different people.
Fast and high-volume.
Built for speed. A first invoice takes about 90 seconds, and the recipient is optional, so "Walk-in customer" is fine.
- Item library for repeat work
- Photo attachments as proof of work
- Partial-payment logging and customer statements
Organised by project.
The full client to project to document hierarchy, for people who bill by project and want the numbers to roll up.
- Per-project rollups: quoted, invoiced, paid
- Everything under the right client
- Quote, invoice and receipt in one thread
