Your invoice needs the basics plus drywall-specific details that matter when someone questions the bill later. Include the square footage you covered, number of sheets installed, and whether you did hanging only or finishing too. Specify the level of finish (level 3, 4, or 5) because that affects labor costs significantly. Break out materials separately from labor so the client sees what they paid for supplies versus your time. Add notes about any extras like texture application, corner bead type, or repairs to existing walls.

Most drywall contractors take 30-50% upfront to cover materials, then bill the rest on completion. For bigger jobs, split it three ways: deposit, payment after hanging is done, final payment after finishing and cleanup. Net 15 or Net 30 terms work for commercial clients with accounting departments. Residential customers usually pay on completion.

Take photos before you tape and mud. When clients delay payment claiming you missed spots or did sloppy work, those photos prove the walls were clean and square when you left them. It stops the "I'll pay when you fix it" game cold. Date stamp them and keep them for 90 days minimum.
