What to include on a Pet Sitter invoice

Your invoice needs the dates you provided care, what services you did each day, and the pet's name. Clients often have multiple pets or use you irregularly, so they won't remember if you came twice or three times that week. Include the rate per visit or per day, especially if you charge different amounts for dog walking versus overnight stays. If you gave medications or did anything extra like bringing in mail, write it down. Some clients submit these to their HSA or pet insurance.

Most pet sitters ask for 50% upfront when someone books, especially for vacation care. The rest is due when you finish the job or within a few days after. For regular weekly clients, you can invoice monthly with payment due within five days. Don't let people get more than two weeks behind or they start forgetting your visits blur together.

Send the invoice the same day the job ends, while the client is still traveling home or just walked in the door. They're thinking about their pet and your service right then. Wait three days and you're competing with every other bill. Also, take photos during visits and attach one to the invoice. It proves you showed up and makes clients happy to pay.

Frequently asked questions

How do pet sitters set their rates?

Drop-in visits cost $15–$30 per visit, dog walks $15–$25 per walk, and overnight stays $50–$100 per night. Rates increase for multiple pets, holidays, and special needs animals.

What should a pet sitting invoice include?

Include pet names, service dates, visit type and duration, additional pet fees, medication administered, special care notes, holiday surcharges, and mileage if applicable.

Should pet sitters charge extra for holidays?

Yes. Holiday surcharges of $5–$20 per visit are standard. Major holidays (Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving) command the highest premiums. State holiday pricing in your service agreement.
