Free Carpenter Quote Template

Carpenters quote because bespoke fitted work is priced differently from standard off-the-shelf installation. A detailed quote specifies the wood species, finish, hardware specification, and installation method so the client knows exactly what quality of work they are paying for.

How does a carpenter write a quote?

A carpentry quote sets out the planned work, the materials, and the price before the job starts, such as a fitted wardrobe or built-in shelving. List labour, timber and panel costs, and installation separately, and note what an on-site change would add. The customer approves the scope before the figure is fixed.

Typical line items

  • Fitted wardrobe (bespoke, floor to ceiling)
  • Timber and panel materials
  • Ironmongery, hinges, and fittings
  • Installation and site preparation
  • Finishing, sanding, and sealing
  • Labour and estimated hours
  • Waste removal and clean-up
  • Contingency for site conditions

How the work is charged

Carpenters usually quote a fixed price for a defined piece or installation, with materials itemised and labour estimated. Smaller repairs may be quoted at a day rate.

Payment terms and deposits

A quote commonly proposes a deposit toward materials with the balance on completion, or staged payments on larger fit-outs. The price holds for a stated period and is an estimate until accepted, so note what a site change would alter.

Tax and compliance

If you are registered for sales tax or VAT, show it as a separate line with your registration number. Confirm the tax treatment of labour and materials where you work.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a carpenter charge for fitted furniture?

Bespoke fitted wardrobes cost €900 to €3,500 per linear metre depending on the material and finish. Solid hardwood is more expensive than MDF. A painted MDF fitted bedroom wardrobe in a standard double bedroom runs €2,500 to €5,000 in labour and materials. Flat-pack assembly costs €30 to €60 per hour.

What should a carpentry quote specify?

Name the timber species or board grade, the finish (painted, oiled, lacquered), the hardware manufacturer and model, the interior fitting specification (shelves, hanging rails, drawers), and whether site preparation is included. Clients comparing quotes often compare on price without realising the material quality differs.

Should carpenters include a variation clause in quotes?

Yes. Discovery work on older properties often reveals walls that are out of plumb or floors that are not level. Include a clause that structural anomalies requiring additional timber or labour will be quoted separately before proceeding. This protects both you and the client.
